Tuesday night I had the opportunity to fulfill a 25 year dream of mine and see the Eagles live at NextStage in Grand Prairie, Texas. Being 40, I was in the perfect generation to live through the music of the Eagles, but had never had the opportunity to see them live. From LPs, to 8-track, to cassette, to CD... I have owned all of the Eagles works. My two daughters could sing I Can't Tell You Why and Hotel California not long after they were out of diapers. It was only fitting that they, now 17 and 15, made the trip as well.
Through the years, I have seen many concerts of both country and rock artists. Nothing else even comes close to what I experienced June 10. Even though they guys are beginning to show a little age, they still got it. From the beginning when the opened with The Long Run, to the final curtain call and Take It Easy/Desperado, I was transformed to an earlier life when they ruled the air waves. Actual playing time of the concert was nearly 3 hours. Thank goodness there was a break in the middle for us to catch our breath.
Nextstage is positively the place to see a concert. The smaller crowds and auditorium atmosphere lends to a feeling of closeness and intimacy with the performers. I have heard the Eagles strive to produce studio like sound in their acts. In my opinion, they succeeded very well Tuesday night.
My favorite part of the performance was the fact that it appeared to be several concerts in one. We got all the classic Eagles stuff. But we also got mini-concerts from the members solo careers. Frey, Henley, and Walsh performed several of their individual songs as well. The guys really seemed to be enjoying themselves on stage. After 30 years, that is a real testament to their love of what they do. My oldest daughter now has a new favorite guitarist.... Joe Walsh. As the song says, Hees Coool.
Another thing that impressed me was you could barely hear the Eagles themselves for the croud joining in on Already Gone and Take It Easy, just to name two. The music is timeless and we all know the words.
Having two teenage daughters, there are few times when we can agree on something. Whether it be what they are wearing, doing, or not doing, we have a difficult time seeing eye-to-eye on many things. However, their is one thing that we all, including my wife, can agree on. We are not likely to soon forget Tuesday night. Thanks Glenn, Don, Joe, and Timothy for a great performance.
