Supergroup rocks Events Center (Casper Star Tribune)

By BRENDAN BURKE

Star-Tribune staff writer Thursday, May 27, 2004

At 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, the Eagles landed at the Casper Events Center.

"I've been waiting and waiting for about 32 years to say 'Hello Wyoming,'" shouted guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Glenn Frey between the supergroup's first song, "The Long Run" and the second "New Kid in Town."

And judging by the uproarious response to Frey's comment from the 8,000-person crowd, many in attendance had been waiting a long time to hear one of the Eagles say something along those lines.

First let me start by saying that I've been an Eagles fan since "On The Border." That being said, I really wish that musicians, actors, and all entertainers not use their platform for their art for pushing any political agenda, whether they be republican or democrat. I truly respect all people's opinions, but I don't poney up eighty or more dollars per concert to hear someone talk about politics... I pay that hard earned money to hear them sing and play their instruments. If I want political opinion, I'll turn on one of the talking head news shows. Yes, this is America, but I don't think that it is necessary to get into politics at rock concerts.

Rudy,As an "Eagles fan since 'On the Border.'" I would think that you're already familiar with Joe Walsh, his humor and his political satire (having run for both offices of President and Vice President in his time). I wouldn't have taken Joe's comment to be an endorsement for either Kerry or Bush, he usually asserts that he could do a better job than both of them. I'm a Canadian, born after "The Long Run", I like President Bush, but I'm a bigger fan of the Clown Prince of Rock and Roll. I agree with your separation of politics and the music/acting community, but please have the sense to know that Joe isn't pushing any agenda on people as say: Bono, or Tim Robins... I think it's primarily a joke - he's more into HAM Radio than polarizing fans (just my opinion). Thanks

Chris,You make a good point, and I humbly appoligize, having recently lost my sense of humor thanks to overly talkitive buffoons such as Barbra Striesand. Joe is a clown in a good way, and I think I've gotten too sensitive about the Alec Baldwins of the world shooting off their mouths to realize that Joe is.... Well, Joe is Joe. Thanks for the reminder.
