I found the crowd enjoyed it, but I was disappointed that no one was standing up on the floor of the arena until the encore when the band began to play Hotel California. Honestly, I thought the energy levels were a bit low, especially considering Melbourne was lucky enough to be chosen for the filming of the live DVD!
By the end though, everyone was getting into it and the classics like Hotel California and Desperado were more than well received.
Highlights included Joe Walsh's amazing guitar efforts in Funk 49. The saxophone in You Belong To The City was simply brilliant and the saxophonists seemed to be having a great time, dancing at the back of the stage! The harmonies in Hole in the World were magnificent, a really poignant song especially live. It just shows their voices are improving with age.
The whole band looked as though they were having a ball. They were really enjoying the music and seemed to be enthusiastic playing for their fans. Every song was sung with passion and the true brilliance of their lyrics shone through. One of the best rock concerts ever!
My favourite performances were Life In The Fast Lane, All She Wants to do is Dance, Heartache Tonight and Hotel California of course. The Boys of Summer is one of my favourite songs from when I was a kid so I really loved hearing that live.
Don Henley just rocks, I do wonder if he was unwell -- he didn't seem to take stage but maybe that's just the way he is on stage. I think he's wonderful.
I had the most awesome time. Money well spent and worth every single cent! They sound better now than they ever have. They just keep getting better and better with age.
