Don Henley in Virginia (Fan Review from JB)

Enjoyed the show a lot. Don introduced the band members. The backup
singers are sisters according to Don. The brunette singer is Elizabeth
Hill. Forgot the other singer's name.

“I Put a Spell On You” OK song , Don voice was strong on this
rendition.
"One of These Nights” - very well done one of my fav Eagles song (good
vocals from backup singers subbing for Frey and TBS). After this song
Don said a few words about seasonal songs and some guy shouted Withchy
Woman. Don said thank you for that suggestion. He then said "actually
I'm sick of singing that song"
”September Song” classy song
”New York Minute” good song with interesting sounds, old song but the
lyrics still applies with recent Wall Street troubles
”The Last Worthless Evening”, good telling of blond actress story,
this song sounds better live than recorded (faster and richer
instruments sounds)
”It Don't Matter to the Sun”, very good song, liked the way he sings it
”The End of the Innocence”, interesting beginning, on of my fav DH
somgs, Don said during Nixon/Humphrey election Nixon's slogan was
:"Nixon is the one", Humphrey had pregnent women showing up at Nixon
rallies holding the Nixon slogan signs. He said politics was funny back
then not anymore.
”Everybody Wants to Rule the World”, very well done, lots of folks
dancing to this cover
”The Heart of the Matter”, another song that sounded better live than
recorded
”Dirty Laundry”, everyone dance til Life in the Fast Lane, very good
guitar work
”The Boys of Summer”, another DH classic
”All She Wants To Do Is Dance”, folks were dancing in the aisles
during this song
”Life in the Fast Lane”, Eagles classic, very well done
”Hotel California”, great guitar playing on this Eagles anthem
”Desperado”, DH signature song
”I Will Not Go Quietly”, 1st time hearing this one live, Don and
guitars players rocked
”Please Come Home For Christmas, 1st time hearing this Eagles holiday
classic, loved it

My Thanksgiving was played before Dirty Laundry (forgot exact
sequence). It sounded good but different from recored version (more
acoustic sounding). I liked it.

This was my 3rd time seeing DH live. Enjoyed it a lot. The show started
slowly and picked up speed towards the end. Don's voice got stronger as
the show progressed. Would have liked to see him play Working It from
Inside Job album.

I just saw him in Chicago and was disappointed he didn't sing some of his more obscure masterpieces - I'm really sad I missed "My Thanksgiving" as he did not play it in Chicago - and it was one of those I was hoping for. . .

Henley showed he still has great pipes in the D.C. concert (moved to the Warner Theatre in the city from the larger, suburban Patriot Center). Agree that the show started slowly - Henley seemed like a cross between Robert Palmer and the X Men with his black suit and tie - but picked up energy and strength. Audience really got into it, too, in a perfect venue for this show. Henley still brings it and longtime fans should like it. He provided some new arrangements to his hits that gave them a fresh sound. "My Thanksgiving" was a pleasant surprise. Can't wait til he comes through the area again.

Henley's backing singers are Claudia Cummings (the blonde), and her sister is Elizabeth Cummings, (the brunette). Claudia was in Jimmy Buffett's band for a lot of years, ( maybe 10? Can't remember but saw some of the shows.) She sang on some big films and is a songwriter on films...used to be an opera singer I was reading, but the interesting bit is she was Ted Kennedy's longest serious relationship when he was single. There's a book that talks about how she was one of the last people Rose Kennedy spoke to before she died, or something like that? Don't quote me but it's in some book about Kennedy.Elizabeth Cummings worked with the Wallflowers and Fiona Apple, maybe with her sister? but I don't know if it's the same girl I knew of back in LA. (yep, I'm in the biz, but still a fan too. Don Henley rocks.)One of the sisters has a website but don't remember which one, and too tired to look it up .
