Don Henley in Windsor, Ontario

We just wanted to post a few things about the show. We're dead tired, but are having a great time on our trip.  We have a podcast recorded, but putting it up will have to wait until we get back to Texas.

Though we expected a boring, corporate setlist, Don surprised everyone with an "autumn-ally" themed first part of the show. He did covers of "September Song", "I Put a Spell on You" and a gorgeous rendition of "It Don't matter to the Sun."

Don did his standard fare as well, (One of These Nights, New York Minute, Heart of the Matter) but changed things up with the lovely slow version of End of the Innocence he did on his 2007 tour.

In a surprise move, Don extended the show with I Will Not Go Quietly.  He claimed he wanted to play more because he was just getting warmed up, so he ended things with Please Come Home for Christmas.

All in all, an exciting, surprising and not very predictable show.

Last night 11/7 Don played in Grand Rapids, MI for a corporate anniversary party at the Van Andel arena. The set list seems to have mirrored the Windsor show as he opened with One of the Nights followed by Witchy Woman, as he said after WW it's close to Halloween so I played these two. He then went into September Song adn It Don't Matter to the Sun, before returning to his own music. We were in the 5th row with Stuart directly in front of us, Scott Crago was on back left side, the two female back up singers over Don's left shoulder. Being a Saturday night the band was decked in black suits and ties to match, save for the back up singers, very classy! It was an incredible night of music, Don shared a story of a Hollywood party in the 80's of which he didn't attend many :), but this one included a blond actress that according to Don all the men wanted to date, she was sitting with Jack Nicholson and Don wanted to meet her saw he asked her for a cigarette, and he didnt smoke ... very funny story and gave us a peek at his personal side. Back to the show, he went through his catalog of hits and the crowd loved it, he came back for the first encore with HC then Desperado and they were off the stage again, to my surprise they reappeared with I will not go quietly and he finished with Please come home for Christmas as he said we are entering that season. It was my second time to see Don solo and fourth overall, they are all very special and shouldn't be missed.

Ah, Please Come Home for Christmas, which The Eagles last played at the Millenium concert on New Years Eve 1999, which begs the question, why is it taking so long for The Eagles to release the DVD of that concert, which so many fans want to see who were unable to attend? I understand the release of that DVD was part of the agreement made between the band and Don Felder? So when will it be realeased does anyone have a clue?Lets all hope it is soon.

Saw the Windsor show as well and Don was great. I was curious about one selection in the show..."Everybody Wants to Rule The World" by Tears for Fears. I was really quite surprised by it's inclusion. Anyone know why he includes that song?, (although I can understand his sympathy with the sentiment). Also, who are the players in his band. Some great ones, especially the guitarist...the "older" one. Is that Hamish Stuart?

I'm not hearing anything good about the opening act. Anybody at the shows, can you verify?

The opening act was not great. The band itself was quite good but I said to my wife, they'd be a great band to see in a small bar. Actually it was the singer I was most confused about...he did not have a great range or tone. A blues type of singer but without the authenticity and I hate it when guys who can play a little guitar strap one one during a show and make it appear as if they're really contributing to the guitar parts. Sorry, the other two guitartists were more than adequate. A friend of mine who was working the show told me the guys name is John Dolan. And that he is extremely wealthy. and that anytime he feels like going out to play a few dates he simply calls up Irv Azoff and says, "hey, I want to go out on tour with Don - or whoever- for a few dates" and voila!

That is the same Dolan that has been running the Knicks in to the ground. What time did Henley come on?

Don was scheduled for a 9 p.m. start but took the stage around 9:20...played a full ninety minutes though.Anyone know who's in the band?

Don's band is Scott Crago on drums....Will Hollis and Michael Thompson on keyboards...Lance Morrison on bass....and Steuart Smith and Peter Thorn on guitar. There were also two female backup singers, but I don't know their names.

Don's been playing Everybody Wants to Rule the World since 2004. I think it started as a commentary on the Bush administration and now he does it just because he likes it.
